Keirn called in a few favours with his friend, Fein. In return for a new life and some help hiding the fact that I’m an ink magician, we belong to the elf that runs half of Prague. Some rumours say he runs half the continent.
There’s an art thief in town, and Fein’s decided it’s my job to find and stop them. I didn’t dare point out that I’m a tattoo magician, not a detective.

Dacian, a tattoo magician, ran for his life from his home in Wildrun. His loyal friends Keirn and Vyx drop everything and relocate with him. Unfortunately we don't know if the threat back home will find him. But life moves on in Prague. Fein, a questionable predatory elf, a guy with a hand in every pie, and friend to Keirn, stepped up to help provide them with contacts, jobs, and a home. The kicker is sharing their penthouse with two bounty hunters, panther shifters Shadow and Luca.So their living arrangements have improved but also gotten more crowded. It seems everyone and their tattoo pets are always in each others business. Dacian is on edge, doesn't seem to be meditating like he had, too much change, and stress over who he is and what he's becoming. His life has gotten more complicated and uncertain.
This story reads as a middle book and it'd be easy to get lost if you didn't read the first one, 'Stolen Ink'. The core group around Dacian gets stronger, a few more new faces, and relationships are either broken or solidified. Throughout it all Dacian is in coping mode. He hasn't mastered his ability, fights to understand it, to come out ahead, and between what his new boss Fein wants and his evolving ability, Dacian struggles. His life is not his own and life continues on, one crisis to the next with little down time. He's using his gift more and resulting weakness then trying to 'unwind' and clear his mind by sparing with Shadow and Luca. Beaten up, broken ribs and all. . . .The guy just can't get a break.
With everything going on, I doubt Dacian realizes how deep his relationship is with Keirn. To go together back home and meet family. To participate and support Keirn in one of the hardest tasks of his life. And the odd thing is they didn't really discuss it, not even when they were home. You'd think there'd be one nighttime scene with tears and sharing but no. And the same thing goes for Dacian in his 'broken' heart and sharing and moving on. He does it all internally and of course that didn't work well for him. By the way, there are light hearted moments but the only one that came off for me was sharing the drunken shouted confessions. I really enjoyed this book. It is a great follow up and I can't wait to read the next one. This is a very interesting world and a compelling group of characters. It is well written and has an engaging plot.
Dacien finds out more about the ink network , and his connection to it. Also, the small group grows slightly larger, and bonds more closely.
I'm really looking forward to the next book in the series. The first was a strong opener & this one continues in the same vein. Engaging characters, a fast-paced plot, intriguing development and creative world-building all complete a total package. I can't wait to see how Evans continues the story.
What an awesome story. Wonderfully imaginative. I loved this book. And the first look also. It caught and held my Attention late into the night and early morning. DaCien needs a lover to ground him. Hope he finds it in the next bpok
Blood and Ink by Holly Evans continues the story where book one left off. You could probably read this without realizing book one and not get lost. Tattoos placed by a tattoo magician is so different than other tattoos, magic tattoos come alive and can leap off of you if you let them. In this book, there is an evil magician that is stealing magic tattoos which kills the victim. Our two gay tattoos,one is a magical tattooist and one is an elf artist, are drafted to help find the thief. Loved it but the ending just stops...
I finished the first book and looked for this one, but had to wait a couple days for its release. I wanted to know how the cliffhanger ended. I've absolutely fallen in love with these characters, especially Dacian, Vyx and Kyra the cat. In this book, the second in the series, we meet a lot more allies and many more mystical creatures, and we get an in depth look at magical communities and businesses. It's got a more serious tone, if you will. I will say, though, that Blood & Ink suffers the typical "sophomore slump" where it's good but doesn't live of to the fanaticism of the first book. I enjoyed my read, I finished the whole thing in a week, and I'm anxiously looking forward to the next book yet it was missing that little extra spark. Still worth the price of a read!

This book is definitely not a standalone. Even though I had read the first book, I was still a bit lost in the beginning since it was so long ago. That being said, I really enjoyed this world that the author created despite having to play catch up in the beginning. It’s a big departure from the light romances that I usually read, and I thought it a really good change of pace. Dacian is definitely not perfect as the MC. It is his voice that provides the basis for the story and we get to see his inner workings warts and all. Keirn I absolutely loved along with all of the assorted critters. I also liked the introduction of all the new characters.
Overall, I enjoyed this story start to finish. While it didn’t end in a cliffhanger, this story’s ending was definitely open ended. I find that I am looking forward to the next one in the series and I don’t plan to wait so long to read it this time.
